Embraer presents the Energia Family – four new aircraft concepts using renewable energy propulsion technologies
Embraer has announced a family of concept aircraft that it is exploring to help the industry achieve its goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The details of the Energia family, the latest in the company’s Sustainability in Action initiative, were broadcast live via YouTube from Embraer’s manufacturing facility in São José dos Campos.
23 countries sign the International Aviation Climate Ambition Coalition
11 November 2021: Representatives from 23 countries launched the International Aviation Climate Ambition Coalition at COP26 on 10 November. Acknowledging the impact of COVID-19 on the sector and the need to develop initiatives that will enable the decarbonisation of the sector, they have committed to work together on the CO2 reductions of the air transport sector.

UK lowers APD for domestic flights
16 November 2021: While several European States are announcing increased taxes for aviation due to its environmental impact, the UK has announced a reform to the Air Passenger Duty for domestic departures. The APD will be lowered by half by April 2023 as the strategic importance of the regional sector is recognised. At the same time, long-haul flights will see an increased APD.

Swedavia introduces CO2 emission charge
16 November 2021: From 1 January 2022, Swedish airport operator Swedavia will introduce a CO2 emission charge, or environmentally differentiated charge in its airports Stockholm Arlanda and Goteborg Landvetter.
European Commission plans to revise Air Services Regulation
16 November 2021: The European Commission (DG MOVE) has opened the call for evidence in view of the revision of the Air Services Regulation that governs the EU internal market for air services (deadline for comments: 6 December).
It touches upon many important aspects of the future regulatory framework of regional air transport and connectivity including the review of the PSO framework.
Thessaloniki Forum discusses airport charges
16 November 2021: The Thessaloniki Forum convened on 16 November to discuss the two draft papers on Airport charges during the COVID crisis and Independent Supervisory Authorities (ISA) powers and concessions.
ISAs had a plenary meeting on 21 October 2021 where the draft papers on Airport charges during a crisis and Concession agreements and ISAs supervisory powers were officially presented for the first time to the Forum.
ART meeting with Commissioner Valean and French Minister Djebarri
17 November 2021: On 16 November, ERA took part in an Aviation Round Table (ART) meeting between the ART stakeholders, the European Commission and the French Transport Ministry.
This meeting had the aim of introducing the upocoming French EU Presidency to the ART stakeholders and discussing sustainability matters, especially on the next steps to be taken for the Aviation Summit next year in Toulouse.
