6 September 2022: The Commission released their proposal in mid-July to amend the EU Slot Regulation for Northern Winter 2022 and reinstate standard airport slot usage rules (80/20) for the upcoming Winter season. It now falls on Member States and Parliament to urgently proceed to have this adopted in time (by the end ofOctober).
EC study on the impacts of COVID-19 on connectivity and competition
6 September 2022: The European Commission (DG MOVE) has launched a study to assess the impacts of the COVID‐19 pandemic and other topical developments on connectivity and competition in the European Single market for all transport modes (rail, road, waterborne, air transport) as well as walking, cycling and new forms of mobility. Consultancy Steer has been appointed to carry out this study.

6 September 2022: European aviation associations – ACI EUROPE, A4E, CANSO and ERA – have sent an open letter to Fit for 55 interinstitutional negotiators to emphasise the need for several adjustments to the ReFuel EU and EU ETS aviation proposals, which are critical for the European aviation industry.

EC public consultation on passenger rights
20 September 2022: On 14 September 2022, the European Commission published a public consultation on its initiative ‘Better protection for passengers and their rights’ which aims to review the EU passenger rights regulatory framework to ensure its resilience to extensive travel disruptions and including options for multimodal tickets.
EC communication on EU response to COVID-19
20 September 2022: The European Commission adopted a Communication on 2 September to propose a common approach for the upcoming autumn and winter seasons. The Communication urges Member States to put in place the necessary strategies and structures to avoid a resurgence of COVID-19 cases later in 2022 - including vaccination and surveillance for COVID-19 - and to assist and put in place the necessary structures that allow the EU to respond to future outbreaks in a sustained manner.
