UK sets out strategy to reach net zero aviation
26 July 2022: The UK has set out its strategy to reach net zero aviation. The Jet Zero strategy sets a timeline for reaching net zero aviation: UK domestic aviation is to achieve net zero emissions by 2040.
The new Jet Zero Strategy sets ambitious green targets to ensure passengers will be able to fly guilt-free in the future.
Countries support global ‘Net-zero 2050’ emissions target at ICAO talks
26 July 2022: After four days of deliberations, ministers and officials engaged in high-level environment talks brokered by ICAO have urged countries to co-operate further through the UN agency toward a collective global long term aspirational goal (LTAG) of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, in support of the Paris Agreement’s temperature target.
EUROCONTROL Data Snapshot – regional market segment
26 July 2022: After close co-operation between ERA and EUROCONTROL, in its latest data snapshot, EUROCONTROL has covered its newly-established ‘regional' market segment aimed at providing better clarity and trends for those scheduled flights that operate with aircraft between 19–120 available seats.
Since 2005, EUROCONTROL has used five different market segments: traditional scheduled, low-cost, charter, business aviation and all-cargo, in support of internal and external reporting to stakeholders.
EES implementation date postponed to May 2023
26 July 2022: ERA participated on 14 July at a high-level meeting organised by DG HOME following the informal Justice & Home Affairs Council where ministers agreed on a new timeline for the implementation of EES.
The meeting was the opportunity for DG HOME to stress that EES implementation will enable the EU to better manage its external borders, and is therefore high on the Commission’s priority list.
EC information campaign on the next phase of the ICS2 system
26 July 2022: The European Commission (DG TAXUD) has launched an information campaign about the Import Control System 2 (ICS2), the European Union Advance Cargo Information System. The ICS2 system - launched on 15 March 2021 - aims to gather data on all goods destined for or transiting through the EU prior to them reaching the EU’s borders (including Norway and Switzerland) through an Entry Summary Declaration (ENS). Thus, Economic Operators (EOs) will have to connect to ICS2 and submit safety and security data via that declaration.
