Globally:
- Aviation currently accounts for 2-3% of global carbon emissions.
- Since 1990, industry fuel efficiency has improved by 52%.
- Aircraft have become circa 75% less noisy in the past 30 years.
- Worldwide, flights produced 915 million tonnes of CO2 in 2019.
- Humans produced over 42 billion tonnes of CO2.
At European level:
- Aviation accounted for 3.6% of total EU28 GHG emissions in 2016.
- There has been a 24% reduction in fuel consumption per passenger.
ERA member airlines:
- Accounted for 13.3 million tonnes of CO2 emissions in 2019.
- Represent 7.76% of aviation emissions and 1.43% of the EU’s total transport emissions.
