BREXIT, UK AND EU AVIATION IMPACT
A number of members have raised questions as to the impact on their operations of Brexit; now that the withdrawal agreement has been ratified in London and Brussels. The relationship between the UK and the EU with regard to aviation will be negotiated during the transition period ending on 31 December 2020. There are, of course, a range of possibilities as to the outcome of those negotiations ranging from “business as usual” to a no-deal scenario.

Updated 17 March: ERA urges regulators to issue clarification and guidance for cargo flights, exempting crew from the restrictions placed on commercial aviation during these exceptional circumstances of COVID-19.

Updated 11 March: ERA supports the decision from the European Commission to temporarily waive the 80 per cent slot rule during these exceptional circumstances of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

COVID-19 open letter to Transport Ministers
Updated 17 March: Ahead of a high-level EU Transport Ministers meeting on 18 March, ERA and A4E issue a joint open letter calling for ambitious and coordinated actions to ensure as many airlines as possible survive the present difficulties and drive economic recovery.
With COVID-19 and the subsequent travel bans and measures put in place in order to contain the spread of this disease, there are huge concerns for all ERA member airlines and the industry as mass aircraft groundings are now being realised.
EC propose amendment to Regulation 95/93
Updated 13 March: On 13 March, following intense pressure from the airline and airline association community, a draft regulation that would grant an exemption for airlines from the 80/20 slot rule was put forward by the Commission for a fast-track approval by the Council and the Parliament, which is expected to occur within the next week.
