Building on his BSc from Valencia University, Bertomeu gained an MBA from Instituto de Empresa, Madrid, and then began his career at the IE Business School, offering finance and strategy consultancy while teaching. He later became Director of MBA and Executive MBA programmes. In 1994, the industrial and finance corporation Nefinsa appointed him Director of Investment and Strategic Development, entrusting him with the Air Nostrum launch. Having been the CEO of the airline for 20 years, nowadays he is the Executive President of Air Nostrum and a Board Member of some other institutions.

More than 90 million passengers have flown on 2.3 million Air Nostrum flights since 1994.
