MEP Oetjen’s question on Book and Claim following industry letter
15 October 2024: At the end of September, several aviation industry associations gathered and sent a letter to TRAN Committee MEPs to ask them to pressure the Commission on issuing the Book and Claim report and give more clarity on possible further measures to ensure SAF availability in Europe.
Following the industry request, MEP Jan-Christoph Oetjen (Germany, Renew) asked two written questions on Book and Claim to the Commission :
- The first question raises the fact that the assessment and report mentioned in Article 15 of the Regulation RefuelEU Aviation are still pending and asks the Commission to update the preparatory actions related to a Book and Claim mechanism in aviation fuel.
- The second question highlights the support from various aviation industry actors for a Book and Claim system to prevent structural imbalances, which is also supported by Mario Draghi’s report, and emphasises the need to implement such system to enhance industrial capacity and set a precedent for ICAO.
