Climate law rejected in Switzerland
29 June 2021: The carbon emissions law adopted by the Swiss Parliament last year has been rejected by a referendum. The climate law was part of the Swiss plan to reduce emissions to half of 1990 levels by 2030. The law also included a new tax on flight tickets and on fossil fuels, imposing excessive costs on Swiss households, particularly during the recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. The law will now have to be reviewed before it is proposed once more.
