First publicly accessible electric aircraft flights from Belgium to be launched this summer

25 June 2024: From the 1 July to the 31 August, the airports of Liege, Maastricht-Aachen and Würselen-Aachen will offer flights on the first publicly accessible electric aircraft made by Slovenian manufacturer Pipistrel, as part of the Electrify project.

So far, the aircraft have been limited in terms of seating capacity and range, mainly because of the lithium-ion batteries used, which are heavy for the amount of energy needed for longer flights.

Travellers interested in the Electrifly project will be able to travel this summer between Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany thanks to this collaboration between the Euregio airports, the European aerospace and engineering centre FH Aachen, the business aviation operator ASL Group and the electric vehicle manufacturer Nio. The price of the tickets will be shared between the pilot and passengers.

This project highlights the undeniable progress made by the aviation industry in terms of new zero-emission technologies. Indeed, the number of manufacturers and projects is increasing, and we can expect a real shift in the aviation market in the next 10 to 15 years.
