Day 3
Day three of the conference started with ‘Miracle on the Hudson’, a fascinating account of US Airways Flight US1549 landing on the Hudson River in New York by its co-pilot, Jeff Skiles. The day continued with the award winners’ news conference with Airline of the Year Gold award winner Binter presenting.
The day also hosted the ERA Annual General Meeting where Andrew Kelly (ASL Airlines Ireland), Yoshihisa Kumagai (Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation), Ryan DeBrusk (Bombardier) and Robert Kuller (Rockton) were announced as new board members. Re-elected airline board members include Boet Kreiken (KLM Cityhopper) as President, Martin Isler (Luxair) as Vice President and Arni Gunnarsson (Air Iceland) and Pedro Agustín del Castillo (Binter) as members of the board and re-elected associate and affiliate members include Laurent Pierre (PowerJet), Bernard Lavelle (London City Airport) and Tony Whitty (Cabot Aviation). During the AGM the members of ERA also agreed a resolution on the future of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme. The ERA board meeting also took place in the afternoon.
The ERA General Assembly was a great success and Simon McNamara, ERA Director General, commented: “I’m pleased that so many of our members were able to join us here in Madrid and help us make it such a great success once again. Over the past three days, we’ve exchanged a wealth of information, listened to many engaging presenters, celebrated excellence in the industry and gained invaluable insights on the latest issues affecting our business. I’d like to thank all our sponsors, delegates and members for taking the time to come to Madrid and be with us.”
The dates and the venue are already set for the ERA General Assembly 2017. The event will take place at the Athenaeum Intercontinental Athens, Greece, on 17–19 October 2017.
