EUROCONTROL’s data snapshot on sustainability
5 October 2021: Following the summer’s traffic, on 21 September EUROCONTROL published a data snapshot on the state of CO2 emissions in 2021. It finds that CO2 emissions are 56 per cent lower compared to 2019 and flights down by 53 per cent.
More specifically, CO2 emissions were 56.3 per cent lower compared to January-August 2019. Despite the relaxation of flight restrictions, CO2 emissions are lower than the resumed flights because the medium/long-haul flights, which emit more CO2, are recovering more slowly than short-haul flights (down by only 40 per cent).
You can read the full snapshot here, where you will find a summary report and the key findings.
