Brandenburg Gate
The Brandenburg Gate is one of Berlin's signature attractions. Built in 1791, it is just one of many old city gates around the city, and this particularly one marked the start of the road from Berlin to the town of Brandenburg an der Havel. The Brandenburg Gate was commissioned by King Frederick William II of Prussia as a sign of peace. Today it is seen much more as a symbol of European unity and peace, and is often a site for major historical events such as the US president speeches of JF Kennedy and Ronald Regan.
