Nicolae started his professional career as an air force pilot instructor. In 1991 he joined Air Moldova the State-owned airline as a commercial pilot and thereafter in 1994 established Moldavian Airlines, the first private airline in the Republic of Moldova.
In 1999 he launched Carpatair in Romania. Since then, Carpatair has evolved from operating full scheduled services to presently being a charter and ACMI airline with a fleet of two Airbus A319 and two Fokker 100 aircraft.
Petrov is the President and CEO of Carpatair and A320 Captain.
