Independent since January 2013, Shannon Airport is successfully and profitably developing its route network, as well as its adjacent aerospace industry cluster. Shannon Airport was the proud recipient of ERA’s Airport Achievement award in both 2014 and 2015 and the ERA Airport of the Year Award in 2018. Shannon is Ireland’s second long-haul airport, as well as an important transatlantic transit stop. Carriers such as Delta, United, US Airways, Aer Lingus, and Ryanair serve a range of North American, UK and continental European destinations. Additionally, in 2016, Shannon welcomed four new airlines: Lufthansa, SAS, Norwegian and Kuwait Airways. Shannon has been home to many innovations, from the world’s first duty free shop in 1947 to the first customs free zone for export industry, and aircraft leasing pioneer GPA. Shannon’s expanding International Aviation Services Centre, a global aviation centre of excellence which is home to about 60 companies, focusses on areas including logistics, MRO, leasing, lease transition support and training/education.
