Associations reiterate need for further U-Space engagement
On Monday 25 January, the signatory associations from the ‘We are all ONE in the sky’ initiative, which includes ERA, released an open letter to the Commission and member states. The letter welcomed the progress that has been made in the latest U-Space regulation, but importantly, it highlighted those outstanding areas that we all believe must be further analysed before the regulation is finalised.
These open issues where the group request additional clarification include:
SDM Consultation Campaign 2021
The 2021 Edition of the SESAR Deployment Programme (SDP) will be aligned with the content of the new Common Project 1 (CP1) regulation and ATM Functionalities. The CP1 legal proposal was presented during the 77th meeting of the Single Sky Committee the CP1 where it obtained a positive opinion of the which should lead to the publication of the regulation by latest end of February 2021.
ECAC’s fourth environmental forum
27 January 2021: On January 19, 20 and 21 ECAC hosted the fourth environmental forum. ERA, along with representatives from ECAC States, European organisations, industry and environmental NGOs participated as members and observers.

Thessaloniki Form adopts two papers
27 January 2021: The Thessaloniki Forum of Airport charges regulators convened on 21 January. The Forum was put into place in 2016 to contribute to a better efficiency of airport services and a better implementation of Directive 2009/12/EC on Airport Charges (ACD).
At the Forum, IATA gave a status of the impact of the crisis on behalf of the industry (see their presentation here).

Prolongation of State Aid Temporary Framework
10 February 2021: In view of the persistence and evolution of the coronavirus outbreak, the European Commission has decided to prolong the State aid Temporary Framework adopted on 19 March 2020 (see press release).
French climate law
10 February 2021: French President Macron presented a proposal for a new climate bill, called 'Law on climate and resilience' on Wednesday 10 February, aiming to cut French carbon emissions by 40 per cent in 2030 compared to 1990 levels.
Among the measures included, the following are relevant for aviation (Articles 35, 36, 37 and 38):
SES provisional agreement reached
16 March 2024: After an all-night trilogue on 5 March, the European Parliament and European Council Presidency reached a provisional agreement on reforming the Single European Sky (SES). Based on our initial assessment of the agreement, ERA has gone on record to express our disappointment, noting that in our view it does not go far enough in delivering the reform required to deliver the long-needed improvements required for regional airlines.
Latest COVID-19 Industry Charter Monitoring Overview
5 October 2021: The EASA Aviation Charter was created in late May 2020 following the publication of the initial EASA/ECDC Aviation Health Safety Protocol (AHSP) that provided operational guidelines designed to assist aircraft operators, airports and NAAs in the protection of the health and safety of passengers, crew and staff whilst maintaining safe and secure operations.
Publication of amended EU slot regulations
20 February 2021: On 20 February, a revised EU Regulation 95/93 (Slot Regulation) entered into force which covers the entire IATA Summer 21 season beginning on 28 March and up until and including 30 October 2021. In essence, the amendment includes a temporary adjustment to the ‘use it or lose it’ rule to accommodate the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak.
The EU return date (ERD) is therefore 27 February 2021 to hand back the series for the Summer 2021 season.
