Meeting of airspace users with DG MOVE and SES

On 25 February, ERA and other airspace user associations met with Henrik Hololei and Christine Berg, Head of Unit, Single European Sky, with an aligned position to address the capacity concerns of airlines and ask the EC to be more ambitious when setting the targets for the reference period RP3. Five bottlenecks are affecting the whole network and one quarter of the ANSPs are not delivering. Christine Berg denounced the lack of co-operation from those problematic ANSPs together with their ministries. The AU associations also suggested an urgent regulation regarding shortage of air traffic controllers, but the EC considers the issue a short-term problem that will be solved by technology. The good news is that EC officials said that as aviation is the only network industry without an independent economic regulator, it might come in the future.
