ERA takes lead role in the mitigation of operational air cargo issues

At the recent Network Manager Airline Operations Group, ongoing operational air cargo issues were highlighted, and it was agreed to address these problems directly with the European Aviation Crisis Coordination Cell (EACCC) through the various state focal points.

At the Network Manager Airline Operations Group (AOG) Iacopo Prissinotti, Director NM and the NM AO Liaison Cell agreed that they would highlight areas to the European Crisis Coordination Cell State Focal Points, where air cargo operations were continuing to face issues that sit outside of the recently published Commission guidelines.

ERA has led the co-ordination between ERA members as well as A4E, DHL, Fedex and UPS in collating the main operational problems facing the air cargo sector including accessibility to hotels and suitable subsistence, reducing cross border delays and complexity, avoidance of lengthy health and immigration checks which impact into crew rest with associated rotational impacts, and flexibility relating to airport availability and curfews.

Subsequently, ERA is now bringing specific ‘named’ examples of issues experienced in recent days to the attention of the EACCC in order that they can be addressed by individual states. To date, 16 states have been contacted and, in the majority of cases, positive responses and advice have been received in and communicated.

ERA will continue to raise these issues with the EACCC state focal points as they occur. The more information made available with specific cases identified and passed to the state concerned, the quicker it is hoped that these issues will be mitigated. Please continue to send an examples to nick.rhodes@eraa.org who will ensure they are raised with the state concerned.
