ERA Operations Group

The ERA Operations Group met on 11 March, where a number of key operational issues were discussed, including the latest updates on the SPI-IR amendment affecting ADS-B deployment, ENGOS, ongoing work with ACNUSA sanctions and a number of initiatives being led by the EUROCONTROL Network Manager.

The ERA Ops Group met at WamosAir, who had very kindly stepped in at short notice to accommodate the meeting as a result of our original hosts, ESSP-SAS being unable to host.

Alongside those present at the meeting, some of the speakers and members were able to link in via Webex call. In total, there were 21 attendees.

Agenda topics discussed during the meeting included the latest developments on EGNOS provided by ESSP-SAS, an update from EASA on the likely outcomes following the Commission's public consultation on the SPI-IR amendment and a detailed overview from ERA members Avantiair and LPLG Avocats relating to ACNUSA environmental sanctions that we believe in many cases to be unfairly applied. We were pleased to have EUROCONTROL representatives online that were able to give the group a number of presentations on topics such as Continuous Climb / Descent Operations, the Operational Excellence initiative and a brief outline of the Network Strategy Plan.

We were also delighted to hear insights and experiences from our hosts, WamosAir, who outlined the various challenges and mitigating actions when it came to performing repatriation flights from China to UK in mid-February.

Finally, ERA sustainability activities were showcased to the group by ERA Sustainability Analyst, Martina Di Palma and ERA Director General Montserrat Barriga.

Presentations and actions arising from this meeting are available for members on the ERA website at:

The next meeting is currently planned for Vilamoura, Portugal at the ERA General Assembly in October.
