ERA Operations Group meeting, Athens

The ERA Operations Group is a highly-focussed and proactive group whose objective is to improve the operational and cost efficiency of flight and ground operations. The group provides interactive, thought-provoking and constructive meetings, and includes ERA member personnel directly involved in flight operations or flight operations support to contribute and help define the future operational policies of our industry.

Our next meeting in Athens on the afternoon of 17 October and continuing the following morning will offer a selection of relevant presentations from ERA members: Baines Simmons concerning the results of a recent study on the safety impact of EU261 – the so-called air passenger rights compensation directive. Dr Alexandra Holmes of Clockwork Research will provide an overview of her work in providing safety studies to operators seeking Individual Flight Time Specification Schemes by way of derogation against EASA Flight Time Limitations. Recently joined member L3 Aviation Products will be showing us their latest products in the area of ADS-B and EFIS upgrade technology. Experts from the European Satellite Service Provider and European GNSS Agency will be informing delegates of the latest round of grants available for regional airlines and airports in support of EGNOS deployment as well as recent success stories in EGNOS approvals and guidance for potential operators. Another recent addition to ERA membership, AeroProfessional, are planning to speak to us about pilot supply and retention for regional airlines during this period of high demand. These are only a selection of the topics to be covered during the meeting and a full agenda will be available on the ERA website in early September where it is hoped that we will be able to confirm speakers from EASA Air Traffic Management, Air Navigation Services and Aircrew Departments attendance.

The Operations Group is a popular and energetic body, which welcomes new members. Participation is free for ERA members and we would particularly like to hear from airline representatives who have not previously taken part in the meetings or would like to raise issues of particular concern to them or affecting their state of AOC issue. The autumn meeting is particularly popular due to its proximity to the ERA General Assembly and early registration is recommended.
